(1/1)

LOL Pain:
Name LOL Pain
Location (optional) Tulsa
E-mail address (optional)
Sex M
Age at injury 39
Date of injury March 13, 2012
Injury cause Started working out again after 3 years off. Single arm bicep curl on preacher curl bench. 20lbs too light. Went to 30. Broke during early part of first rep at 30lbs (one arm curl).
Suspected pre-rupture symptoms  I've work out off and on for 20 years. Two times (years apart)  I stopped working out due to a "tendon sprain" that wouldn't go away without months away from the gym. Right in the inside of my elbow. Never thought much about it. Doctor didn't seem to think it was anything serious.
Is dominant arm right or left? right
Is injured arm dominant or non-dominant? dominant
Partial/total rupture (and estimated % tear if partial) total
Date of surgery March 27, 2012
Time from injury to surgery 14 days
Extent of tendon retraction (cm or inches if known) unknown
Surgeon/Name of practice Brian Chalkin / Tulsa Orthopedic Center
Overall impression of surgeon on a scale of 0 to 5 5 - not much interraction. well recommended. booked solid. managed to luck upon a same-day appt. Injury was understood before I met with him. Told him I wanted immediate surgery. He agreed and I got the next available surgery date 1 week out.
Positive aspects of surgical and post-surgical treatment (limited to factors within surgeon’s control) no opinion
Negative aspects of surgical and post-surgical treatment (limited to factors within surgeon’s control) hated the nerve blocker - could not sleep with dead arm -- fingers felt like when you sleep on your arm and cut off the circulation. Arguably WORSE than pain from surgery.
Number of incisions (one or two) one
Attachment type (transosseous sutures, suture anchor(s), endobutton, etc.) endobutton
Nerve block (yes or no) yes - whole arm
Post-op treatment (time in cast, ROM brace, etc.) 2 weeks in splint, then probably ROM brace. i bought my own brace to be ready.
Complications none yet
Time to satisfactory resolution of complication(s)
Time to full active ROM (or progress report on it)
Progress report on strength training of the injured arm
Time to no restrictions
Time to full recovery

LOL Pain:
A point I should probably specify:
Nerve block was in addition to general anesthesia. Doctor's preference.

hflicker:
Just had my surgery yesterday.  Endo button procedure.  Total rupture on left (dominate) arm.  Intermediate pain right after post op.
Was feeling like my splint was wrapped too tight and cutting off my circulation.  Loosened the wrap this morning too much relief.
Alternating percs and ibuprofen for pain relief and anti-inflammatory.  Hope to discontinue percs tomorrow.
