Geez....I know I'm pretty fortunate now. My surgery was on a Monday and I was back to work on the Wednesday. It was a pain typing with just the left hand but that and a couple of other things were my biggest burden at work. Things were more inconvenient at home with showering with a garbage bag over the splint and other things you do around the house. My surgery was on 3/5 and wasn't released to return to return to work until 3/21. My pay would have remained the same but there is no way I could have laid around home for weeks unless there was no alternative.

I actually think that if the Surgeons prescribed daytime tv for 6 months post op, recovery times would half....:-)

Sooooo.... I am still relatively new here...

Just wondering why there is such a large variation in "time off before returning to work..."

Some are at several months... some only a few days...

It all depends on what you do. If you sit behind a desk you can go back to work fast. If you do hard manual labor (like I do) you have to be almost fully healed before returning to work.

I do construction work I am at 13 weeks, I don't see any way I would feel safe trying to do that type of work at this point. Sitting behind a desk i could have done 2 months ago.

I had surgery on Thursday and was working from home the next day and in the office the following Monday.  I have a desk job ( I'm a lawyer) using the computer was difficult at first but now a week out from surgery feeling pretty good. One big issue was that it was impossible to put on a shirt, tie and suit with the huge bandage and now brace on my arm.
